Peaches This Year

I don't have time for a long post. I took almost the entire week off from my work preparing for our move to deal with our peaches. This week I have to get back on track with the stuff for the move.

Despite that, I did want to update you on the peaches this year. We harvested 57 pounds! What a great tree!

Since this will be the last home grown peaches I have for awhile, I wanted to make sure I got as much jam as possible. I ended up with 23 pints. I found a recipe for peach peeling and pit jelly and made that with a gallon of the peelings and pits. That gave me 5 pints of jelly. So I feel pretty happy about the harvest.

    I know you're super busy with the move and stressing about the details...just try to remember that each step is taking you closer to your dreams!!!

  3. My wife was mildly upset when I chose to plant asparagus at our new place while she was still unpacking boxes. It needed to be done! We joke about it now, esp. when she's harvesting the asparagus. The good news is there's light at the end of the tunnel, and like Melissa said every task puts you one step closer to your new place!

  4. The jars look fantastic. I didn't even think about making jelly or jam with our peaches... hmmmm.

    1. Really? What do you normally do with your peaches? Peach jam is my very favorite jam of the year and this peach jelly made from pits and skins was also wonderful. It's usually the favorite of the ones I make among my friends and relatives, too.

  5. Wow, that's a lot of peaches! LOL, I didn't get a single plum from my three trees (think I've got a problem). Nice looking jars!

  7. What a wonderful parting gift from your tree! Good luck on the move! I am sure there are not enough hours in the day, but I am also sure you;ll figure it out just fine! I like the use of the pits and skins, too. I'd be curious to see how it compares to the full-deal. I love using up the odds and ends, too, though!

    1. Beth, that is a good way to look at it--as a parting gift from our tree.

      My son and I love peach jam. I made the jelly with Earl Grey tea (5 bags for a double batch of jelly, left in just until it starts to bubble before boiling. Take the tags off before putting them in water). My son and I actually think the jelly is even better than the jam because of this little addition. :)

    2. Well, that sounds amazing. I love peaches. I love jelly. I love Earl Grey. I will have to try something similar, but perhaps with apples instead of peaches since we've much more ready access to those.
